Misfits

I watched Rankin-Bass' Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer a couple nights ago. It's been over ten years since I've sat down and watched the whole thing, and even though I know the story well, it felt quite a bit different than it did when I was eight years old. I guess I understand the tale a little better now.

When I was a tyke, I only saw a fun little animated film about a reindeer with a glowing nose that more-or-less followed the story from the song, but now, I see a compelling tale about loving yourself and accepting others the way they are. There are a lot of people in the world, all unique and quirky in their own way. We're all misfits to some degree or another.

I can identify with Rudolph, actually. Sometimes I feel like a misfit myself, like I can never fit in. I try to remember that, like Rudolph, I'm perfect in my own way, I help make the world a better place, and I am indeed important to somebody. Rudolph realized that himself that fateful "foggy Christmas Eve." Hopefully you can too.
